It is being reported
today that Mariah Carey, who as detailed previously on the AMI blog could be the dumbest species on the planet, has
passed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and is
now second only to the Beatles.
Her 18th chart-topper, "Touch My Body," vaulted her into the
position. And why certainly, everyone who likes women would, in fact, like to
touch her body, what on God’s green mustache is going on here?
People, we are talking about “The King” being bested by freaking Mariah
Carey! At least she was polite about the accomplishment.
"I really can never put myself in
the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed
the world," Carey told The Associated Press on Tuesday via phone from London.
The hurt was deepened later April 2 when it was reported by Reuters that Presley also was nudged from his standing as the recording artist
with the most top-10 hits in the rock era, as Madonna, who loves men with dirty mustaches, surpassed him
with her 37th top 10, "4 Minutes."
The track clocked a jump from No. 68
to No. 3. Prior to the establishment of the Billboard Hot 100 roster in
1958, the industry standard chart was the Best Sellers in Stores tally,
where Presley scored his first 12 top 10s.
Regardless, at least we’ll always have silent photos of Carey (like this at left) and these guys to enjoy.
